I love funky, fun, independent coffee houses and am always on the look out for new ones. Not too long ago, as my beloved and I searched for the entrance to Hermon Trail for a hike, I spotted one of these elusive gems. A few days later I decided to visit my new find, Charlie’s Coffee House. To my delight, this place has enough funk to make it cool while still maintaining an order and cleanliness that keeps it from being grunge chic…jackpot!
I ordered a mocha on-the-rocks with whipped cream, yum! I have been back several times since for another cup of this treat. Their coffee beans are fresh and locally roasted with a shelf life from roasting to brewing and serving of under one week in most cases. This makes for a distinctly yummy flavor (I know, my scientific jargon is fierce). The compelling thing is that I am an iced tea drinker/addict, not coffee, so for me to forego the iced tea for a mocha coffee drink is a real testimony to its goodness.
Charlie’s also offers some grab-and-go food options such as sweets, salads, and a small selection of sandwiches. The staff greets you with a welcoming smile and “hello” which adds to the overall warmth of the place. There is ample seating either outside, inside downstairs or inside upstairs in their “loft” area. They also offer free wifi for those of us who like to do some work while at a funky, fun, and independent coffee house. Stop by for a visit and let me know what you think of the place.
I”m adding this to my list of “must dos” when we head to Pasadena!
I recommend the ice mocha, yum!
I like the look of the place… and the look of the mocha – yum!
