Today is the day everyone celebrates the Irish — Irish beer, Irish soda bread, Irish eyes, Irish people and the ever popular Irish Shamrock. Growing up I was always intrigued by McDonald’s Shamrock Shake, but I never did get one and now my intrigue has turned to Bailey’s Irish Cream (yum!). However, let’s stick with Shamrocks. Did you know…
The desert is known for many things — sun bathing, little water, golf…but polo? Yes, it is! There is a beautiful and robust polo scene going on just outside Palm Springs in Indio, CA, at the Empire Polo Club.
When thinking Key West, FL, most people think warm breezes, white beaches and frolicking in the sunshine…but what do you do on a rainy, cloudy day in this tropical paradise? Lots! Spaceman and I found ourselves in this situation not long ago and it is surprising how much fun you can have on such a day. One of the best perks of a stormy day is that the crowds disappear and the town becomes one for locals (and us, I’m sure we blended in well with our maps and cameras). Here are my top five things to do in Key West, Florida, on a rainy day…
One of the definitions of the word flower means “the finest individuals out of a number of people or things”. Although I realize not everyone thinks of flowers as individuals, I disagree as I happen to talk with them, laugh with them and genuinely enjoy their company. Needing a fix of my colorful and sweet-smelling friends, I headed out to the Los Angeles Flower Mart in downtown LA.
What do you do with an old motel you ask? Turn it into a turtle hospital of course! That is exactly what the owners of The Hidden Harbor Motel on Marathon Key in Florida did after Hurricane Wilma severely damaged the motel in 2005. Up to that point, the motel had been a resting spot for both human and marine reptiles. Out of the damage arose The Turtle Hospital. Rescue, Rehab, Release.
Ice cream has long been my love. I remember childhood summer days doling out strawberries (one for the bucket, one for me) as my mom and dad created strawberry ice cream magic in a frozen silver cylinder. Since then, ice cream and I have been committed partners. That is why it came as such a surprise when I tasted the homemade pastries at Copenhagen Pastry and my heart quivered — had I stumbled upon a new love?
Where is the lizard? Can you find it?
It is not a bad thing to fit in and blend, but just remember who you are and where your boundaries lie. Those things should not be compromised.
