When thinking Key West, FL, most people think warm breezes, white beaches and frolicking in the sunshine…but what do you do on a rainy, cloudy day in this tropical paradise? Lots! Spaceman and I found ourselves in this situation not long ago and it is surprising how much fun you can have on such a day. One of the best perks of a stormy day is that the crowds disappear and the town becomes one for locals (and us, I’m sure we blended in well with our maps and cameras). The Los Angeles Flower Mart – Dazzling in Downtown!
One of the definitions of the word flower means “the finest individuals out of a number of people or things”. Although I realize not everyone thinks of flowers as individuals, I disagree as I happen to talk with them, laugh with them and genuinely enjoy their company. Needing a fix of my colorful and sweet-smelling friends, I headed out to the Los Angeles Flower Mart in downtown LA.

What do you do with an old motel you ask? Turn it into a turtle hospital of course! That is exactly what the owners of The Hidden Harbor Motel on Marathon Key in Florida did after Hurricane Wilma severely damaged the motel in 2005. Up to that point, the motel had been a resting spot for both human and marine reptiles. Out of the damage arose The Turtle Hospital. Rescue, Rehab, Release.

My cell phone laid vibrating on the table next to my empty plate of food. I had shared a sandwich with Spaceman and was contemplating whether or not he got the bigger half. I usually don’t hear or notice my phone when we are out, so why this time? I looked around and realized everyone’s mobile phone was going off. As I grabbed mine to look at what was coming through, I read, “Tornado Warning in this area. Take shelter now.” Uh, excuse me?
